Theodore Ushev's new short film La Vie avec un idiot [A Life with an Idiot] has been selected in the competition programme of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, France, according to the author's Facebook post published on Tuesday. Together with four other titles from the competition programme, the animation will be screened during the official opening of the festival, which will take place on June 8-14.
"I can finally announce that my new film La Vie avec un idiot will open the Animation Film Festival in Annecy, France. The film is part of the competition program of the largest animation festival in the world and this will be its world premiere. (Warning - the film has a heavy presence of idiots)," Ushev wrote on social media.
According to the festival's official website, the 18-minute film falls into the "social satire" genre.
The plot of the animation apparently follows the short story Zhizn s idiotom by contemporary Russian writer Viktor Erofeev.
One more film with Bulgarian participation is included in this year's festival selection - Bread Will Walk (Le pain se lève) directed by Alex Boya, who lives and works in Canada. The film made its world premiere in the parallel programme Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Annecy International Animated Film Festival was established in 1960 and is held annually. It is one of the four international festivals organised by the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) and is one of the most prestigious animation forums in the world.
