Museum workers will hold a token protest on Saturday, May 17, to press their demand for higher wages. The action will take place on the eve of the European Night of Museums and ahead of International Museum Day (May 18). The token protest is organized by the culture workers chapter of the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour under the motto “For Decent Pay!”, Podkrepa said in a press release on Friday.
Museum employees insist that their pay should be increased every year until it reaches 125% of the average wage in Bulgaria. They also demand additional maintenance and development funding for their institutions. They call for legislative amendments and a national strategy for cultural heritage.
The union warns that museum workers will go ahead with effective strike action if their demands are not heard.
