The Faculty of Economics of Sofia University is presenting the science of sustainable development at the Kaleidoscope Mobile Centre for Visual Science from May 8 to 11 in the Prince's Garden in Sofia, the organizers said.

The Science Dome will show the 360-degree immersive experiences "World at Risk" and "Hope for the Future," which will be broadcast during the fourth edition of the LUNAR Festival of Lights. The projections present scientific facts about climate change, plastic pollution, global deforestation and social inequality, taking viewers to the planet's hottest spots, with the overall impression of this journey creating a real sense of the difficulties facing the world today, but also the possible solutions for a better tomorrow, the Sofia University Economics faculty said. Screenings will be every 10 minutes from 9 p.m. to midnight on the days of May 8 to 11.

Kaleidoscope dedicates May 9 to the visual science of sustainability. During this day, groups of children and young people from schools in Sofia will take part in discussions on why it is important to be responsible to nature and the world we live in, they will be able to talk to the Kaleidoscope team.

The Sustainability Olympics will be held under the Kaleidoscope Science Dome on May 10, organizers said. SDG Olympics 2025 is the first national sustainability competition in Bulgaria that simulates real challenges in the context of sustainable development. The game is an interactive simulation that invites participants to immerse themselves in the dynamic world of sustainability, where the complex interrelationships between the economic, social and environmental aspects of the modern world are explored through strategic choices, case studies and collaboration, the team of the Kaleidoscope Visual Science Centre noted.

Youth and professionals will discuss the future of consumption and formulate recommendations to all stakeholders to nurture a new generation of sustainable consumers in the Ethi-CitizenPanel on May 11 at the Mobile Centre. There will also be a public screening of the film "Soil", created in response to the global risk of desertification. The screening is organized in partnership with the Save the Soil movement. In 1998, some environmental agencies predicted that by 2025, 60% of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu would have become desert, organizers recalled. The programme also includes an award ceremony for the participants of the II New Bulgarian University Scientific School of Architecture and Interior Design "From Students to Students", who presented projects for the renovation of the building of the Faculty of Economics in implementation of the Net Zero Campus project.

The Kaleidoscope Mobile Centre for Visual Science is an initiative of ESGLab and the FEB Foundation, created by the scientists of the Sofia University Faculty of Economics. Through visual and sensory experiences, the organizers draw attention to key topics such as environmental protection and biodiversity, access to energy, water and food, human security, health and the future, the organizers said. In 2024, Kaleidoscope premiered during the Visual Science Days initiative in Sofia ( February 29-March 2) and was part of the main programme of the LUNAR2024 Festival of Lights. The projections were created by scientists from the Faculty of Economics and visualized by MP-STUDIO, the organizer of LUNAR.
