Dmitry Sitkovetsky, one of the great names of the violin school, will hold a concert and masterclass in Sofia, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra announced Wednesday. On June 15 in Bulgaria Hall, under the baton of Grigor Palikarov, Sitkovetsky will present Divertimento for violin by Igor Stravinsky. Bela Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra is also part of the evening's programme.

On May 17 and 18, the musician will work with outstanding students from the National Academy of Music. The great violinist will give a masterclass in the project "Lessons of the Great - Masterclasses of the Sofia Philharmonic Soloists".

Dmitry Sitkovetsky was born in 1954 in Baku, Azerbaijan. With a recording career spanning more than four decades, he is internationally renowned as a violinist, conductor, composer, arranger and teacher. As violinist and/or guest conductor in the 2022-2023 season and beyond, Sitkovetsky has performed throughout Europe and North America. 

Sitkovetsky leads his final, 20th season as music director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra in North Carolina. Over the past two decades, he has led the orchestra and curated more than 120 different orchestral programs.

In 1990, he founded the New European Strings Chamber Orchestra (NES), an ensemble of the most distinguished string players from Europe's finest ensembles.
