site.btaScientists from 18 Countries Gather in Sofia for Solubility Phenomena Symposium

The 22nd International Symposium on Solubility Phenomena and Related Equilibrium Processes (22ISSP) opened in Sofia on Monday and will run through September 3 at the National Centre for Excellence in Mechatronics and Clean Technologies at the Geo Milev Campus, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) press office said.

Scientists, researchers and specialists from 18 countries, including Germany, Spain, Portugal, the US, Australia and Brazil, are participating.

The symposium is organized by the BAS Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry in cooperation with Prof. Dr Assen Zlatarov Burgas State University and is included in the official calendar of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

The programme covers solubility phenomena, phase equilibria, solution thermodynamics, modelling and experimental determination of equilibrium data, with applications in environmental science, pharmaceuticals, materials science and modern energy technologies.

A satellite workshop, Tailored Properties of Ionic Liquid Electrolytes for Sustainable Energy Storage Applications, will focus on ionic liquids as electrolytes for sustainable energy-storage technologies. The symposium will also feature the Franzosini Prize and Balarew Award for significant scientific achievements.

Hosting the event in Bulgaria is an opportunity to promote Bulgarian science and strengthen Sofia's position as a venue for international scientific forums, BAS said. The scientific results will later be published in special issues of international journals, including Pure and Applied Chemistry.
