The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) organized a scientific conference on Tuesday to mark the 60th anniversary of the signing of the framework agreement between the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and BAS. The event brought together representatives of the academic communities of Bulgaria and France.
Among the officials attending the event were the French Ambassador to Bulgaria Marie Dumoulin, BAS President Evelina Slavcheva, former BAS President Julian Revalski, BAS General Assembly Chair Vasil Kirov, BAS Vice President Emanuel Mutafov. The event was hosted by BAS Vice President Evdokia Pasheva.
Evelina Slavcheva highlighted the long-standing and active partnership between the two institutions, noting that it underpins international projects and the exchange of young specialists. She added that 80% of CNRS’ joint publications with Bulgarian researchers involve scientists from BAS.
Marie Dumoulin underlined the historical importance of the anniversary, noting that the partnership has endured through different eras and political shifts. She noted that in 1965, when the agreement was first signed, France and Bulgaria were in opposing political blocs and scientific research was one of the few channels for dialogue. She stressed the continued importance of scientific cooperation, including within European programmes.
The conference featured lectures presenting the historical development of CNRS and BAS, as well as contributions focused on current scientific contacts and future projects between the two institutions.
