At a roundtable in Sofia titled “Young People in Bulgaria: From Promises to Action,” Bulgarian National Assembly Speaker Nataliya Kiselova outlined three concerning trends among the country’s youth: declining attitudes toward education, rising violence, and increased conflict with the law.

She also warned of a deeper demographic issue — the overall proportion of young people in Bulgaria is decreasing. In 2025, only 55,000 children entered first grade. Kiselova criticised delays in youth policy and reporting, noting that reports on youth for 2020–2022 were only submitted last year, while many of those youths are now adults.

She called for smarter, forward-thinking, and cross-sectoral approaches to challenges such as education, child nutrition, youth justice, and access to sport.
