site.btaPM Zhelyazkov: BG-ALERT System Proves Operational and Effective

The BG-ALERT system is operational and delivering positive results, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said during Friday’s Question Time in Parliament. He noted that the system had been used five times in Burgas (on the Black Sea) on the same day, stressing that it enables timely alerts for specific geographic areas and targeted populations.
Following the Prime Minister’s order, all regional governors, mayors and responsible officials underwent training on the system within two weeks, Zhelyazkov said. The decision to activate the system rests with the competent authorities in line with the procedures and escalation levels built into it, he added.
By May 19, 2025, a total of 212 officials had been trained under the Prime Minister’s directive, including 28 regional governors, 29 deputy regional governors, and 144 authorised staff members of regional and municipal administrations.
BG-ALERT is a public warning system designed to disseminate alerts in cases of hazardous events (disasters, emergencies, and other threats to life, health or property). Messages are sent via mobile operators’ networks directly to end-user devices (mobile phones, tablets, and certain smartwatches) supporting the Cell Broadcast Service technology.
