Politicians and sport figures congratulated Bulgaria’s national men’s volleyball team on winning the silver medal at the 2025 World Championship on Sunday.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said: “Our national volleyball team showed how far Bulgarians can go with their talent, will, and assiduity.” On Facebook, the government quoted Zhelyazkov as saying: “I want to give credit to the players, the coaches, the whole crew, the federation and everyone else who contributed to this success.”
Zhelyazkov is convinced that the best is yet to come for this team. “We are proud of you, boys! Stay confident. The silver medals are a phenomenal success – and Bulgaria thanks you!”
Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Vesela Lecheva said: “We didn’t even dream of such a success at the start of the championship. Your way to the final was surreal. You showed very high class and a strong will. Your talent, daring, and youth are a promise for the future. I am confident that three years from now, you will be among the best at the Los Angeles Olympics.”
“Bulgarian sport can unite the nation – and you proved it,” Lecheva said.
Sports Minister Ivan Peshev said: “I am very pleased with the emotions we shared with the residents of Sofia and our guests. I thank everyone who joined us at Yunak Stadium to watch today’s final together. My sincere congratulations to our national volleyball team and heartfelt thanks for the excitement they brought us over the past ten days. We needed this shared experience and sense of unity, and today everyone showed that we can come together as one,” Peshev commented.
“I am confident that the Volleyball Federation’s strategy and support for young athletes will ensure continued success. In just five years, this deliberate approach has already delivered impressive outcomes, making this year one of the most successful for youth, women's, and men’s volleyball,” he added.
"Significant increases in state funding are planned for volleyball and all sports. Our programme specifies that the sports budget will grow by up to 30% annually during the four-year term. Therefore, I anticipate ongoing increases in allocated resources," Peshev said.
National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova also congratulated the men's volleyball team: "You have demonstrated that success is achieved through considerable talent, consistent training, determination, and teamwork", Kiselova said. "All of Bulgaria is watching you and feeling pride in your strength and energy, and in your indomitable spirit."
"Although you are the youngest team among all World Championship participants, you have firmly established yourselves among the world's elite. More than fifty years after Bulgaria's last appearance in a volleyball final, you have once again proven that our country deserves its place at the top of international volleyball," she added.
