The parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy Thursday unanimously supported a bill to ratify the Advanced Framework Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Chile, of the other part, drawn up in Brussels on December 13, 2023. The Enhanced Framework Agreement takes the partnership to a higher level and aims to strengthen political dialogue, deepen cooperation and improve trade and investment opportunities.
The agreement will deepen trade and investment relations between the EU and Chile and provide new opportunities for the development and growth of EU companies in Chile, which is the fifth largest economy in Latin America, according to the explanatory memorandum to the bill.
Bulgaria has participated actively and consistently in the discussions within the EU on the negotiations on the Agreement. Its final text reflects the positions and priorities expressed by Bulgaria. No problematic elements have been identified.
MPs rejected the proposals of the Vazrazhdane parliamentary group to include in the agenda of the meeting a draft decision to lift sanctions against Russia and Belarus, as well as a declaration not to send Bulgarian troops to Ukraine.
The second item on the Committee's agenda was a hearing with Foreign Minister Georgi Georgiev, which was closed to the media.
