site.btaTram Derails in Central Sofia, Hits Several Cars but No One Is Hurt
A tram went off the tracks in central Sofia early on Tuesday morning. It hit several parked cars and knocked down the entrance to a subway, but nobody was hurt, said the Sofia Directorate of the Interior.
An alert for the accident was received at 5am. The tram was empty as it derailed.
The driver had briefly exited the vehicle to buy coffee from a nearby stand. As he turned, he witnessed the tram crashing.
The Sofia electric transport company told BTA that the accident was caused by "external interference".
