The recommendations of the ad-hoc committee on water shortages should be forwarded directly to the executive branch to start taking action, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Bogdan Bogdanov proposed on Thursday during an emergency meeting of the parliamentary Environment and Water Committee regarding the country’s water crisis.
The proposed decision will create just another working group and another team from dozens of state institutions that will ultimately sweep the problem under the rug, Bogdanov commented. He emphasized the need to build on the progress achieved over the past seven months and forward the recommendations directly to the Council of Ministers for action.
Bogdanov noted that Pleven’s capital investment programme ranks among the lowest in the country for water and sewerage infrastructure. “When the pipes at home are leaking, we don’t go out and buy a new car,” he said. “We’ve proposed updating Pleven’s programme, stopping unnecessary projects, and redirecting the funds toward water and sewerage infrastructure,” the MP explained.
CC-DB's proposal was ultimately rejected by the Committee with five votes in favour, zero against, and eleven abstentions.
