A group of 28 migrants was detained by border police near the village of Brodilovo, Tsarevo Municipality, the Ministry of Interior said on Thursday. All have been sentenced under expedited proceedings for illegally entering the country, and the driver who transported them remains in custody.
Border police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a minivan transporting a large group of foreign nationals. Assisted by police units, they stopped the vehicle en route to Burgas. In the cargo area, officers discovered 28 undocumented men from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Teteven, was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.5‰ and tested positive for drug use. Fast-track legal proceedings have been initiated, and the Burgas Regional Prosecutor’s Office has been notified.
The migrants have been transferred to the temporary accommodation centre for foreigners in Lyubimets and are scheduled for deportation from Bulgaria.
