A Moroccan national was shot and wounded during an attempt to illegally cross the Bulgarian border near the village of Zvezdets, Burgas Region, the Ministry of Interior said on Friday.

Around 9:00 pm on Thursday, a Border Police patrol found a group of about 20 Moroccan migrants trying to enter Bulgaria illegally. One of the three border officers was attacked. The migrant disobeyed the police order and tried to flee. After warning shots were fired into the air and in a situation of continued assault and self-defence, the migrant was shot in the shoulder. He was later taken to the hospital in Burgas, the Border Police said.
