Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev stated at the Green Transition Forum that the ambition is for the capital to be a climate-neutral city by 2030. “This is not only our local goal, but also Europe's commitment to the world and to the future,” Terziev said during the panel discussion "Sustainable development of regions. Carbon-neutral and smart cities: From vision to reality” on the third day of the five-day Green Transition Forum 5.0: Powering Up Competitiveness and Innovation in Central and Eastern European Region, held at the Sofia Event Centre. The event, which is being held for the fifth time, is organized by Green Transition Forum and Dir.bg. BTA is a media partner.

“We are already part of the EU's mission for 100 climate-neutral and smart cities. Our goal is an 81% reduction in harmful emissions,” he added, pointing out that the means to achieve this are innovation, data and cooperation.

Terziev emphasized the need for partnership in this process between local and central authorities, as well as institutions outside the state.

According to him, Sofia is ready to learn, share and lead. He stressed that sustainable development is not in the future, but is our urgent agenda today. “Sofia is confidently on the path to green transition and our ambition is clear - to turn the capital into a clean, digital and sustainable city,” Terziev said, pointing out that building a carbon-neutral and smart city is not an easy task and requires courage, vision and, above all, teamwork.
