This academic year, 15 foreign students study at the St Ivan Rilski University of Mining and Geology, the educational institution told BTA. Three of the students are from EU states: Greece, Italy and Czechia.

The majority of foreign students at the university are from European countries: Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia, Russia, North Macedonia, two are from the African continent: Angola and Ghana, and one is from Kazakhstan.

In the last three years, the university has seen a slight increase in the number of foreign students.

The University of Mining and Geology is the only higher education institution in Bulgaria that has been providing high-quality education in the field of exploration, extraction and processing of mineral and energy resources for nearly seven decades. In its long history the university has trained more than 30,000 graduates, Bulgarian and foreign citizens, from nearly 40 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, South and Central America.

The university has the necessary staff to provide high quality education. The main objectives of the University of Mining and Geology are to train highly qualified specialists, to conduct high quality scientific research and provide competent scientific services that comprehensively distinguish it as a leader in the field of mining, and to ensure its competitiveness in Europe.

The main reason why foreign students pick the University of Mining and Geology is the specificity of the bachelor and master programmes it provides and the high quality of training, the educational institution added.
