site.btaProtest Planned in Sofia against Euro Adoption June 28
The Civic Committee for the Protection of the Lev is organizing a protest in Sofia on June 28 against Bulgaria's adoption of the euro, Nedialko Nedyalkov told a news conference at BTA's National Press Club.
"Our supporters are organizing a motorcade to Brussels on June 26, which we support. After June 28, the protest will take on an altogether different dimension. There will be blockades every evening until July 8, when the vote on the eurozone will take place," said Nedyalkov.
He quoted a Sova Harris survey which found that the Bulgarian society is not prepared to adopt the euro as planned in 2026 with clear public backing.
Strahil Angelov from the Civic Committee said: "Bulgaria is being forcefully pushed into the eurozone."
Anti-euro protests pre-dated the June 4 convergence reports on Bulgaria's readiness for the changeover and have been held several times since then.
