Bulgaria commemorates its national heroes today, June 2. Sirens will be sounded across the country for two minutes at noon to mark the Day of Botev and Those Fallen for the Freedom and the Independence of Bulgaria.

Pedestrians and drivers are asked to stop right where they are and stand still for the duration of the siren signal, the Interior Ministry said in a press release.

A national commemorative gathering will be held in Mt Okolchitsa in the Balkan Range, beginning at 11 AM, Vratsa Municipality said.

On June 1, the town of Vratsa hosted a military tattoo and a fireworks display commemorating revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev’s heroic death.
