site.btaPomorie Strives to Become Top Tourist and Spa Destination – Pomorie Mayor

Pomorie Mayor Ivan Aleksiev, who participated in the Brand Pomorie: Spa Capital of the Southern Black Sea Coast discussion here on Saturday, said that his town aims to establish itself as a leading tourist and SPA destination on the Southern Black Sea coast. The forum was part of the national Brand Bulgaria Campaign of the Standart Media Group.
The Mayor reported that the municipality is taking steps to resolve the problem with the ownership of Pomorie's Thracian beehive tomb, which was declared a cultural heritage site in 1978. The current status of the site hinders the local government's attempts to apply for national and European development projects.
Aleksiev added: "We have a project ready and a clear vision of how to turn this site into an attractive tourist destination, and our ultimate goal is to have it included on the UNESCO World Heritage List." A meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture is scheduled for Monday to discuss the transfer of management rights to the municipality.
The Mayor said that the development of cultural tourism is key to prolonging the tourist season and creating sustainable employment in the region. "Visitors are looking not only for sea and sun but also for authentic experiences related to Bulgaria's history and culture," he said.
Participants in the event discussed the efforts of the local authorities and businesses to improve the quality of tourist services, environmental standards, and to promote the natural and cultural features of the region. Aleksiev noted that local beaches have been certified with the Blue Flag Award, which is an international recognition of cleanliness and quality.
The Mayor concluded: "We have a state and institutions that work with us. I believe that if all of us—state, municipalities, media, and the tourism industry—work together with a shared vision, Bulgaria can become a global tourist destination."
