Speaking here on Saturday, Bulgaria’s Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova said that honouring educators, librarians, and all people of the word should not be limited to May 24 alone. She attended celebrations at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius High School of Humanities in Kazanlak (Central Bulgaria), marking the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and Slav Letters.
Kiselova noted that respect should be shown every day of the year "because it preserves us as a nation and preserves our cultural and national identity."
As a graduate of the High School of Humanities in Kazanlak, the Parliament Chair said that “standing in the courtyard of your school on May 24 is one of the most emotional moments for anyone who has graduated and found their path in life.”
The school in Kazanlak is the successor of the first school in Eastern Rumelia, the Pedagogical School, which opened in 1883. The schoolyard houses the country's first monument to the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, which was created by sculptor Ivan Topalov in 1933.
