Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov welcomed Guy Parmelin, head of the Federal Department for Economic Affairs, Education and Research of the Swiss Confederation at the Council of Ministers in Sofia, the Cabinet’s press centre said on Wednesday. “As a government, we will do our best to make cooperation between Bulgaria and Switzerland even more fruitful,” Zhelyazkov said at the meeting. Parmelin is visiting Sofia at the invitation of Prime Minister Zhelyazkov on the occasion of the celebration of the fourth anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology - INSAIT.

The Prime Minister emphasized on the Swiss support in the implementation of programmes promoting growth in Bulgaria and providing opportunities for improving education and competitiveness. Zhelyazkov pointed out that since February 2025 the implementation of the Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Programme under the second Swiss cohesion contribution has been launched, which amounts to nearly CHF 100,000,000. The programme covers 5 key areas, including education, public safety, environmental protection, innovation and social inclusion.

Guy Parmelin highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Switzerland and the prospects for their development. He praised the establishment of INSAIT 4 years ago and outlined the benefits the two countries got from its work.

Later on Wednesday, Zhelyazkov and Parmelin will visit INSAIT where they will attend the fourth anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Institute, the press release said.
