site.btaSofia Municipal Council to Attempt to Elect Chair

The newly-elected Sofia Municipal Council (SMC) will make an attempt to elect a chairperson at a meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

Last Monday, at its first meeting, the SMC failed to elect a chair. The Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria - Save Sofia coalition nominated Boris Bonev, BSP for Bulgaria nominated Diana Tonova, Vazrazhdane - Krasimir Galabov, and There Is Such a People - Plamen Danailov.

None of the four candidates managed to get more than half of the votes during the first vote. Bonev was supported by 23 municipal councillors, Tonova - by nine, Galabov - by eight and Danailov - by three. There were four invalid ballots. Another vote took place between Bonev and Tonova. The total number of councillors who voted the second time was 44, and the number of invalid ballots was 12. Again, Bonev received 23 votes and Tonova - nine. Thus, no chair was elected.
