An international architecture competition will be held for proposal what to do with the space where Sofia's Soviet Army Monument is currently located, Sofia City Hall head Georgi Georgiev said on Nova TV Saturday. "Let world and Bulgarian architects propose a solution, and we will decide what to have there [after the monument is removed] at public discussions with citizens," he added.

The monument undoubtedly has no place where it is, that is why Sofia City Hall adopted a decision towards its relocation. The topic is being used on the eve of the October local elections to increase various politicians' ratings, Georgiev noted.

He said the tents placed in front of the monument to prevent its relocation are illegal. He called on the political leaders behind the tent camp to take the necessary measures to protect the health and life of the people there.

Commenting on the news that the Chairman of the State Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has instructed the Committee's central office, in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry, to investigate Friday's desecration of the monument, Georgiev advised the Russian services to focus on the incidents and crimes on the Russian Federation's territory. "Bulgaria is a sovereign country, we have enough competent authorities to checks the alerts and take measures," the Sofia City Hall head argued.
