The Sofia City Prosecution Office have charged prosecutor Dilyan Deyanov for mishandling physical evidence in an investigation popularly known as the Eight Dwarfs Case. It exposed an operation involving members of the judiciary, for company theft and trading in influence, which was brought to light in an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Fund in 2020.

Deyanov came to the prosecution service for questioning in the company of his lawyer, Lyudmil Rangelov, but refused to speak to the press.

The prosecutor is accused of unlawfully returning a large amount of gold coins seized in the Eight Dwarfs case, to the wrong persons. 

He was released on his own recognizance.

Former investigator Peter "the Euro" Petrov and his ex-wife, Lyubena Pavlova, were also charged in the case.

Lawyer Rangelov said that the charges against his client were meant to let off steam "in the wrong direction and to appease the public opinion by showing that progress is being made in the investigation".
