Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev requested for a hearing in the National Assembly in connection with pre-trial proceedings for high level corruption and influence peddling, the Prosecution Office said on Friday.
He has sent a letter to the National Assembly Chair Rossen Zhelyazkov with a request to be heard by MPs behind closed doors, given the sensitive information contained in the pre-trial proceedings.
The hearing was requested on the basis of Article 26 of the National Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, which envisages discussion with MPs on the activities of the prosecution and investigative bodies, including legislative changes, resource availability and difficulties related to the performance of the functions of these bodies, the Prosecution Office explained.
