Caretaker Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov commented on Monday's statements by Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev and his Deputy Borislav Sarafov."What we heard yesterday is just confirmation of what some of us have been saying for years, " stressed Zarkov on the air of Nova TV.
"We have seen the Prosecutor General and his deputy accuse each other of committing felony crimes, but is there a mechanism to find out, authoritatively and legally, who is right? The need is for Bulgaria to build a mechanism and be able to investigate such things," the Minister explained.
The only constitutional arbiter is the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), its composition must be replaced and it must start acting according to the standards applied to it, Zarkov pointed out. He noted that after what happened, Sarafov should declare that he has no ambition to become the prosecutor general and added that a new composition of the SJC should choose the new head of the prosecution.
"The guardians of the judicial status quo reached a limit on yesterday. From then on, everything we doubted and criticized was said and confirmed by the highest level, inside the system itself," Zarkov argued. This is the result of long-delayed reforms and questions that were never answered and are now being answered in the most brutal and ugly way possible, he noted.
