The Bulgarian Navy has started the Breeze 2022 multinational maritime exercise, which will last until July 25, the Defence Ministry said in a press release here on Thursday.

The training is planned and is being conducted in accordance with NATO standards and procedures. The exercise is being held in Bulgaria's territorial sea, adjacent and exclusive economic zones, and areas which are to be announced in a timely manner.

A total of 24 warships, cutters, auxiliary vessels, five planes, and four helicopters manned by 1,390 naval personnel from eleven NATO member countries (Bulgaria, Albania, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Romania, the US, Turkey, and NATO Allied Maritime Command) are taking part in the naval exercise.

The exercise's control headquarters are deployed at the Burgas Naval Base and are supported by Varna Naval Base.
