In connection with allegations made by Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chair Delyan Peevski has referred the matter to the prosecution service, the party’s press office announced on Monday.

"In several public statements, Demerdzhiev put forward a baseless, absurd and even comical arguments, through which he is attempting to link his actions, aimed at proving a non-existent connection between a Bulgarian company and the payment for my flights, to the series of threats against schools, nurseries and other public buildings. I have stated on numerous occasions that these flights were paid for by myself and my family," Peevski says.

In his view, Minister Demerdzhiev has crossed the line, beyond which he begins to "play with people’s fears and anxieties" by exploiting his ministerial position, rather than prioritizing the safety and peace of mind of citizens as his primary responsibility.

Demerdzhiev announced in Parliament last week that he had personally lodged a complaint with the National Revenue Agency to investigate allegations that Peevski’s flights were paid for with family funds. The documents received from Hyperion Aviation at the request of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime do not show any payments received personally by Delyan Peevski for flights during the period January 1, 2023 and June 15, 2026, the Interior Minister said at the time.

On Sunday, Bulgarian Cyber Police head Vladimir Dimitrov said that threats had been made against Demerdzhiev in the latest wave of bomb threat emails sent to hundreds of Bulgarian institutions. The Interior Minister later said that he does not have enhanced security over the personal threats against him.
