“We are providing for higher salaries for young doctors in the 2027 [State] budget,” Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at the beginning of the regular Government meeting here on Wednesday. Radev said that his Government is working to ensure that young doctors in Bulgaria have faster opportunities for professional development.

The Prime Minister congratulated employees of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, the Prosecutor’s Office and the State Agency for National Security for the operation carried out in Plovdiv and for uncovering abuses involving clinical pathways, clinical trials, expensive medicines and sick leave. There has long been discussion of major abuses and the siphoning of funds from the National Health Insurance Fund, Radev said. He stressed that it is the Government’s task to work to ensure that such practices are detected and prevented.

Cross-checks will continue across the country, he said, adding that amendments to the Public Procurement Act have been prepared in order to curb the siphoning of funds from the National Health Insurance Fund.
