Two male leopard cubs are the newest residents of the Stara Zagora Zoo. They were born on July 28, 2026, and are in excellent health, the zoo reported.

The cubs are the first offspring of the four-year-old leopards Leya and Dante, who arrived at the Stara Zagora Zoo from Slovakia in 2022. The leopard cubs are named Jai, which means “conqueror,” and Shanti, meaning “peace.”

The mother is caring for the cubs, and the zoo staff is monitoring their development and providing the necessary daily care. In the first weeks after birth, leopards need peace and security.

Visitors are now welcome to see the leopard cubs, Stara Zagora Zoo said.

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is a species of wild cat classified as vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Last year, Stara Zagora Zoo contributed to the conservation of the critically endangered Bengal tiger with a cub born in November 2025, the first ever born there. The cub is the firstborn of Karina and Belcho, who have been a pair for eight years.
