Problems with [the high] prices were predictable, Continue the Change (CC) leader Assen Vassilev said in an interview with Bulgarian National Television on Friday evening.

Vassilev said CC had warned during the election campaign in late March and early April that the 2026 budget should include a substantial anti-crisis package to be activated if conditions worsened. He cited the war in Iran, natural gas supply problems and disruptions to grain supplies following attacks on terminals in Odesa.

Vassilev also criticized the Government's package of measures worth more than EUR 300 million to address high fuel prices, saying that only EUR 30 million would reach low-income households, while EUR 100 million in subsidies for fuel used by agricultural machinery would primarily benefit large grain producers.

According to Vassilev, the measures would not reduce prices for any Bulgarian household.

Commenting on the upcoming presidential election, Vassilev said Bulgarian voters should decide who could be a strong, independent and responsible president of Bulgaria.
