site.btaBulgaria Ranks Last in EU for Paid Streaming Services
Subscriptions to various paid streaming platforms are becoming increasingly popular in Europe, but interest among Bulgarian users is the lowest in the EU, according to data published by Eurostat on Thursday. In 2025, nearly one in three of 32.7% of internet users in the EU had a paid subscription to a streaming service for films, TV series or sports, the highest share among the four main types of subscriptions.
By comparison, only 9.3% of internet users in Bulgaria paid for such subscriptions. Slovenia (13.7%), Latvia (16.7%) and Lithuania (17.4%) also ranked among the EU Member States with the lowest shares of people subscribed to film, series or sports streaming services.
Ireland and Denmark among EU Member States recorded the highest shares of internet users with paid subscriptions to film, series or sports streaming services, at 63.9% and 61.1%, respectively. The Netherlands followed with 59.2%.
Paid music streaming services were popular in the EU, with 23% of internet users having a subscription. By comparison, just 7.2% paid for access to online news websites, newspapers or magazines, while 6.1% had a subscription to a game streaming service.
