Bulgaria updates its security protocols every day, regardless of the diplomatic note received from Iran, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told reporters at a briefing on Wednesday.
"In any event, at every moment we are updating our security protocols because of the current security environment and the escalating risks, in order to protect airports, railway stations and critical infrastructure. We do this every day, regardless of the diplomatic note from Iran, and we will continue to do so," Demerdzhiev said.
He added that the authorities were closely monitoring developments in the conflict, as well as in other conflicts.
"We are continuously improving both our organization and our technical capabilities," he said.
On Tuesday, Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry said it had received a diplomatic note from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sofia concerning the possible deployment of US Air Force aerial refuelling aircraft at Bezmer Air Base.
Parliament's Defence Committee has approved a draft decision authorizing the presence in Bulgaria of US military aircraft and personnel in support of operations in the Middle East. The proposal is due to be put to a vote in the plenary chamber. The Council of Ministers submitted the draft decision to Parliament on July 20.
