In response to questions from MPs in Parliament on Friday, Minister of Education and Science Georgi Valchev said that in 2026, 63 high school seniors with learning difficulties related to dyslexia and dyscalculia have requested reasonable accommodations for the state high school graduation exams. Another 32 students in 7th grade requested similar accommodations when taking the national external assessment.
The matter concerned the difficulties faced by students with specific learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, aphasia, and language disorders, as well as attention disorders with and without hyperactivity, in taking the national external assessment and state high school graduation exams.
The Minister reported that the situation will be analysed to make sure that students with such conditions are not disadvantaged while taking the national external assessment and state graduation exams. He added: "At this point, I can say that there are devices available on the Bulgarian market [specialized assistive devices used by students with specific learning difficulties during exams] that do not require an internet connection and are affordable. Such devices, equipped with the necessary functions, without being cloud-based, online, or having access to ChatGPT, cost around EUR 490."
