The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) issued a yellow and orange code warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in 20 regions around Bulgaria on Friday, according to an announcement published on NIMH's website.

An orange alert has been issued for seven regions in Northern and Central Bulgaria, and a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall and storms in 13 regions of the country.

On Friday, there will be significant cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds with temporarily intense rain showers with thunderstorms and hailstorms. Winds will be moderate from the north-northeast. Highs: between 20C and 25C, around 20C in Sofia.

Over the mountains, cloud cover will be significant, and there will be brief showers accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms. Moderate to strong winds will blow from the north-northeast. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1,200 metres will be around 13C, and around 7C at 2,000 metres, NIMH reported.
