site.btaGeneral Directorate Combating Organized Crime Uncovers Ring Smuggling Cigarettes from Greece to Romania

Officers of the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) uncovered a criminal operation smuggling cigarettes from Greece through Bulgaria to Romania and detained two people near Pernik, Deputy Director Darin Kostov said on Friday.

As part of the law enforcement effort, a passenger car and a truck were stopped at a gas station near Pernik, in which 300 boxes of smuggled cigarettes were found. Kostov pointed out that the police operation is part of the priorities of the Interior Ministry and the GDCOC, adding that information is also being exchanged with neighboring countries on the case.

Kostov noted that an investigation is set to begin.
