The Constitutional Court has decided to proceed in substance with a case filed by the caretaker government challenging the constitutionality of a National Assembly decision of March 13, 2026. The decision obliges the government to submit to the National Assembly a bill of ratification of Bulgaria's accession as a founding state to the Charter of US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace, the court's press office said on Tuesday.
All 12 constitutional judges took part in the sitting. The ruling was adopted unanimously. The reporting judge is Galina Toneva.
On March 15, caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov detailed the cabinet's petition to the Constitutional Court, pointing to the existence of "very clear, traceable and consistent case-law of the Constitutional Court over time which shows that this resolution of the National Assembly is not compatible with the provisions of the Constitution."
Gurov's predecessor Rosen Zhelyazkov signed the Board of Pace Charter for Bulgaria on January 22 in Davos, Switzerland, subject to subsequent ratification.
