site.btaSome 363 Kg Marijuana Worth EUR 3 Mln Seized at Lesovo Border Crossing

Customs officers at Lesovo border crossing discovered nearly 363 kg of marijuana in a lorry transporting washing machines, the Customs Agency said on Friday. The narcotic substance is valued at around EUR 3 million at judicial prices.

On Thursday, the lorry with Romanian registration arrived at the Lesovo border crossing on the outbound lane from the country. In the customs control area, the driver, a Turkish national, presented documents stating that he was transporting washing machines in transit from Romania to Turkiye via Bulgaria and declared that he had nothing else to declare. A thorough customs inspection was carried out, during which customs officers discovered 25 boxes placed on top of the declared washing machines in the cargo, containing a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages of dry green leafy substance. Field drug tests carried out on the substance in the packages reacted positive for marijuana.

A total of 362 kg gross weight of marijuana was seized. The driver has been detained and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is to submit to the court a request for the imposition of a remand measure of detention in custody.
