site.btaSofia Court Hands Down Multi-Year Sentences for Property Fraud Ring

The Sofia City Court has sentenced seven individuals for participating in an organized criminal group engaging in large-scale property-related fraud, the public prosecution said on Monday. They were active in Sofia between January 2016 and March 22, 2018.

One of the sentenced persons was the mastermind of the group. He received a prison term of six years and will be held initially under maximum security conditions.

Another member got three years and six months’ imprisonment with an initial period under maximum security conditions. Three others received three-year sentences, the execution of which the court suspended for a period of five years. The remaining two members of the group were sentenced to two years each, with the execution suspended for four years for one and five years for the other.

The verdict is subject to review by the Sofia Appellate Court.

The investigation was conducted by the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime under the leadership and supervision of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office. The indictment was submitted to the court on May 12.
