A second hospital heliport was opened in Gabrovo on Thursday by outgoing Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov at the Sveti Ivan Rilski Multidisciplinary Hospital for Active Treatment.

Karadjov said that the network of heliports to hospitals in Bulgaria is expanding. He noted that 18 such sites are operational and three more are in the process of implementation. He pointed out that four medical helicopters are already in Bulgaria, with the fifth expected to arrive by the end of January. As per the Recovery and Resilience Plan, the remaining three helipads will arrive by the end of August this year, Karadjov said. "We will be able to say that we have the ability to react in the so-called golden hour for any emergency that requires adequate hospital intervention," he stressed.

The first sod of a new hospital ward at the medical facility was also laid as part of the event.

In October 2025, a heliport was also opened at the Tota Venkova Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment in Gabrovo by outgoing Health Minister Silvi Kirilov.
