A European project aimed at introducing innovative technologies and developing cybersecurity capacity, as well as enhancing the protection and resilience of strategic sites and systems of importance to national security, will be launched by the State Agency for National Security (SANS), the agency said on Friday.

The project seeks to build on SANS’s existing capabilities for monitoring, analysis, prevention and response to cyber incidents. A particular emphasis is placed on the deployment of modern hardware and software solutions, the use of automated analysis and artificial intelligence, as well as on developing the expert capacity of staff, the statement said.

As part of the project, the existing cyber incident monitoring and response centre will be upgraded, new tools for the analysis and visualisation of cyber risks will be introduced, and additional mechanisms for early warning and information exchange with national and international partners will be established.

The project is expected to contribute to enhanced operational readiness at SANS, an expanded scope of protection for strategic sites, and stronger resilience of the national cybersecurity system.

The project is being implemented under a grant agreement dated October 7, 2025, with a total budget of BGN 47,995,626.83 and a completion deadline of no later than June 30, 2029. It is financed with the support of the Research, Innovation and Digitalisation for Smart Transformation Programme 2021–2027, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
