Vazrazhdane will file an appeal with the Constitutional Court against Parliament’s decision to reject the President’s proposal to hold a referendum on the European currency, as well as submit a proposal to the National Assembly to repeal the Government’s decision to provide financial assistance to Ukraine, the parliamentary group’s Floor Leader Kostadin Kostadinov said in the corridors of Parliament on Friday.

The appeal to the Constitutional Court concerns Parliament’s decision to reject President Rumen Radev’s proposal to hold a national referendum with the question: “Do you agree that Bulgaria should introduce the European currency, the euro, in 2026?” According to Kostadinov, this decision once again violates the constitutional rights of Bulgarian citizens.

The proposal submitted to the National Assembly’s registry calls for the repeal of a decision taken by the outgoing Government to provide at least BGN 1.2 billion as a “gift to Ukraine,” in Kostadinov’s words. According to him, the Cabinet’s decision was taken without legitimate grounds, as the Government no longer represents the Bulgarian people, he argued.

The leader of Vazrazhdane said he believes Parliament has sunk into triviality and that it would be best for it to cease work.

Commenting on President Radev’s statement that he will hand the first exploratory government-forming mandate after the New Year and that he expects the introduction of 100% machine voting, Kostadinov said this was a logical decision so that the procedure can be completed by the end of January and elections can be held on March 22 or March 29.

With regard to machine voting, he recalled that Vazrazhdane have supported it for years and have submitted amendments to the Election Code as early as January.
