site.btaDonations Exceed BGN 240 Mln in 2024

Companies, foundations and individuals donated more than BGN 240 million in 2024, Bulgarian Donors’ Forum (BDF) Executive Director Teodora Bakardzhieva said on Wednesday, while presenting information collected from the National Statistical Institute, the National Revenue Agency, municipalities and other sources.

Bakardzhieva noted that the analysis of charitable giving was carried out in December 2025, showing a very significant change compared with previous years. More than half of the donated funds in 2024, over BGN 140 million, came from companies. Foundations donated more than BGN 51 million, while individuals contributed BGN 48 million. By comparison, total donations in 2023 amounted to BGN 138 million, Bakardzhieva added.

In terms of company registrations, the largest number of corporate donors last year were based in Sofia (969), followed by Plovdiv (235), Varna (169), and Burgas (105), the data showed. Bakardzhieva said that donor companies operate mainly in the information technology sector and food retail chains and include representatives of large international corporate groups.

The largest financial donations were made in support of healthcare and medical institutions, municipalities, schools and kindergartens, as well as the Centre for Assisted Reproduction and programmes supporting the treatment of children under the National Health Insurance Fund. Donations were also made in the field of culture.

Of the funds donated in 2024, 81% were allocated to social support, 65% to education and science, 60% to the development of local communities, 50% to healthcare, 39% to the environment and sustainable development, 33% to sport, 26% to child and youth development, 24% to culture and the arts, 7% to human rights, and 6% to animal welfare, according to BDF.

The data also indicate a slight decline in the number of companies declaring donations, alongside an increase in the total amounts donated.
