site.btaWinner Is Someone Else and Should Come Forth Today, MRF – New Beginning Leader Peevski Says
Commenting on Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s words, who earlier on Thursday announced that the government was resigning, MRF – New Beginning party leader Delyan Peevski told reporters in Parliament that another winner emerges from such a situation and he should come forth this very day.
The government’s resignation came as Parliament was about to vote a no-confidence motion against the government submitted by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB). In the wider picture, the country is swept by massive anti-government protests that were triggered by the cabinet's controversial budget plans but escalated into discontent against the government over corruption, injustice and failure in many government sectors.
Peevski pointed out that the decision to resign is entirely in the hands of the mandate-holder and the parties in the ruling coalition. He stressed that his party had supported the coalition “so that it could help the people”.
“We did it for the [state] budget, which was very social, and we defended it and said “No to the oligarchy and to tax cuts for it”. There had to be a dividend tax, taxes on gambling, so that there would be enough funds for all social classes,” the MRF-New Beginning leader said.
According to him, his party defended the understanding that Bulgaria should be a social state. Peevski said that in the current situation, “all responsibility lies with the Soros coalition”, speaking about the CC-DB coalition.
