According to Vice President Iliana Iotova, the upcoming vote of no confidence, set to be debated and voted on this week, is different from previous ones because it has the support of a vast majority of citizens. Iotova made the comment while speaking to journalists, on the sidelines of the opening of the public discussion Bulgaria and the New European Budget 2028–2034: Goals and Opportunities on Monday.

Iotova noted that this is the first forum that opens the conversation on what the next Multiannual Financial Framework, or the next EU budget, will look like. The forum is organized by the delegation of Bulgarian Socialists in the European Parliament. Upcoming changes, strategic priorities and Bulgaria's position in shaping the new budget policy are on the agenda for discussion. The forum brings together representatives of European institutions, the executive and legislative branches, local governments, academia and the expert community.

Regarding the new draft state budget, Vice President Iotova expressed concern that one spreadsheet will simply be replaced with another, without any indication of the policies Bulgaria needs or the reforms that must be carried out. “Dialogue is possible and a very different approach could have been taken toward all partners and Bulgarian society as a whole” she said, adding that she would advise the government to rely more on verbal communication next time.

On December 5, Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria filed a vote of no confidence in economic policy against the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
