Everything related to education is a priority in the Sofia Municipality budget, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said during the presentation of the draft budget framework for 2026 in Pravets on Friday.

"Let's save ourselves some of the emotions we had over the last budget and do something really good for the city", Terziev emphasized. He expressed hope that a good budget will be achieved with the active work of the municipal administration, the Sofia Municipal Council and the neighborhood mayors. Terziev set education as the most important priority in the budget, which include construction and design of kindergartens, care for every child, transformation of schoolyards and transition to a completely single-shift regime, as well as creation of sports facilities in every neighborhood. "Care for children should start with education," the mayor pointed out.

Investments in transport are the second major priority that Terziev highlighted. According to him, replacement of rolling stock, expansion of the metro, an enormous amount of investment in rail, new boulevards and streets for new vehicles to move along are planned. A major breakthrough is expected in parking spaces, as dozens of new parking lots are planned to be constructed. "This will be done through public-private partnerships and will not be financed through the budget," Terziev noted.

Another major topic that will continue in the 2026 Municipal Budget is the involvement of residents in the process of creating the so-called "citizen budgets". "We are expanding funding for them in order to have more projects and good ideas," Terziev said, adding that the goal is for reisdents to see a direct connection between their ideas and what is happening in Sofia.
