The Orthodox Church celebrates the Synaxis of St Michael the Archangel and the Other Bodiless Powers.

Bulgaria:

- Bulgarian Police Day;

- Day of the Western Outlands (an area now in Southeastern Serbia which Bulgaria, defeated in World War I, lost to Yugoslavia under the 1919 Treaty of Neuilly).

1204: Tsar Kaloyan accedes to the throne after establishing a union with the Roman Catholic Church.

1899: A railway linking Pleven with Shumen is inaugurated.

1936: The Higher School of Commerce opens in Svishtov, established on money bequeathed by entrepreneur Dimitar Tsenov in 1912.

1958: The State Lottery is established.

1962: The Vihren National Park is established in the northern section of Mt Pirin (today's Pirin National Park)

1901: The Bulgarian Historical Society is founded in Sofia.

1961: The first nuclear reactor for research purposes goes into operation near Sofia.

1999: The Council of Ministers adopts a national strategy for safe management of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste from the Kozloduy N-plant.

2000: Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and his wife Silvia arrive on a three-day visit to Bulgaria.

2001: The National Assembly adopts the Independent Financial Audit Act.

2006: The National Assembly adopts the Income Taxes on natural Persons Act.
