The Danube Bridge near Ruse is open again to heavy goods vehicle traffic, Ruse Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov said on Wednesday.

Draganov said that all four lanes approaching the bridge from Bulgaria in the direction of Romania, on which truck drivers can pay the toll for passing through the facility, are open. At the proposal of the Customs Agency, an additional fifth lane has been opened for trucks.

It currently takes between 20 and 25 minutes for trucks to cross the bridge in either direction, Draganov noted, adding that about 110 trucks bound for Romania are waiting on the Bulgarian side of the border.

"At this stage, there are no traffic problems in the area. A total of 10 teams from the regional directorate of the Interior Ministry and the Border Police are on the ground and regulating traffic so that key roads in Ruse Region are not blocked," Draganov stated.

The bridge was closed to traffic from Tuesday morning, as major repairs were being carried out.
