President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, the Republic of Turkiye Directorate of Communications said in a post on X on Tuesday. The post specifies that the call, held at the request of the Ukrainian side, addressed the Turkiye-Ukraine bilateral relations as well as regional and global matters.
President Erdogan reportedly praised as valuable the progress achieved in the direct talks in Istanbul between Ukraine and Russia, expressing his "wish for meaningful results, in the next rounds, for a ceasefire on the path towards lasting peace".
He noted that Turkiye stands ready to host a summit at the leaders' level. Erdogan voiced his belief that establishing working groups in the military, humanitarian and political spheres will pave the way for a summit.
He stated that his country continues to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
