Home sales in Turkiye peaked in April this year. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, 118,359 homes were sold last month. The year-on-year increase was 56.6%, which is a record high.

In the four months since the beginning of this year, 454,145 homes were sold, a 27.9% increase compared to the previous year.

According to data quoted in Turkish media, the increase is mainly in second-hand home sales. In April, 83,726 second-hand homes were sold, up 62.6% year-on-year.

A third of the homes sold were in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, with Istanbul leading the sales.

There has also been a significant increase in home purchases through loans, as well as in mortgaged homes overall. In April, the number of mortgaged homes increased by 147% compared to the same month last year, and the total number of mortgaged homes was 17,465.

There was also a 13.2% increase in sales of homes to non-residents in April this year, which totalled 1,440.

In the category of foreign home buyers in Turkiye, citizens of the Russian Federation predominate with 276 homes sold last month. They were followed by citizens of Iran - 128 homes, and Ukraine - 120.

Most homes were bought by foreigners in Istanbul, Antalya and Mersin.

However, a 13.5% drop in housing sales to foreigners was recorded in the January-April period compared to the same period of the previous year.
